An excellent DVD, along with Alan Lacer's "The Skew Chisel, The Dark Side and the Sweet Side", for learning the much maligned skew chisel. This one is more of a skew chisel projects DVD. This DVD should still be available from Alan Lacer's web site directly, along with his skew chisels and diamond slip stone. I don't have this DVD yet, but I have watched it several times, borrowed from the local woodturning club's library. I fully intend to get my own copy as a Christmas gift this year. I do have "The Skew Chisel, The Dark Side and the Sweet Side", "Woodturning, Getting Started RIGHT", and "Projects Along the Woodturning Trail" (a Telly Awards Silver Winner) DVDs. I received my 2024 last week. I also set it up on my own. The lathe comes in a medium weight cardboard box that provides no support. It would be really nice if TeknaTool would put a piece of 1/2" or 12mm plywood in the bottom of the box to provide some stiffness.

I just burnt up my 3rd power supply. When It works, it works great, but I have spent much time repairing the electronics. While you can turn up to a 10 inch diameter, I dont recommend it for it is under powered. For pens it would be great if you can keep the speed control from burining up. At this time, i will buy an aftermarket power supply to repair it. The adjustable speed is nice but not worth the headaches.

Grizzly 11x26 lathe is a good value
I bought this lathe about 9mos ago to make parts for my business. I have not had any problems and it is still tight. There are set screw adjustments on the carriage to keep things smooth and accurate. The tool post is just ok since you have to shim all the tools up to centerline. A quick change tool post will make things much better. Changing spindle speed is a bit of chore, but only takes 5min when you figure it out. The only complaint I have is with the stand. The bolt holes did not line up on the chip tray and required modification. It's Chinese, so you have to expect some of this. This lathe is very basic and works well for the price.
