The two models use the identical motor with the identical analog variable control wheel and so performance is nearly identical. As far as I can tell, the only difference is aesthetics. That, and chucks get worn out over time, increasing play; also, collets are easier to change attachments if they're all the same size... Then again, you can get a new keyless chuck for $10, or you could buy MICROMOT collets for this model for $20.

In short, the hobbyist or tinkerer will notice little difference between this "precision" model and Proxxon's "professional" one...

Not worth it
I purchased this tool to use in my jewelry crafting, and as I am writing this review I am waiting for UPS to arrive to pick up this product and return it back to Amazon for a refund. This product had 4 major problems for me.

#1 - The chuck is not fully adjustable. The product comes with two little colet attachments and neither of them are able to tighten fully to hold bits smaller than the ones provided. I have an additional bit collection (with 1/16" posts) that I planned to use with this product and they are all too small.

#2 - The chuck on the flex shaft portion is poorly designed and isn't able to tighten at all, even to use the thick bits provided with the product. When you attempt to twist the chuck to tighten it just twists inside the cord of the shaft. There doesn't seem to be a way to hold it tight and twist. If there is a way to do it, I never figured it out.

#3 - This was the ultimate deal breaker for me. The motor doesn't hold the speed...

I've purchased lots of tools and have worked as a handyman and Rotozip is the most disappointing tool I've ever purchased. Great for cutting plaster board and ceiling tile circles and box outlets but other cutting attachment just don't measure up. I burned up $30 flush mount saw blade because it hit a nail which is a real world event. Tile saw blade and motor power not as good as a 4 inch grinder and saw blades are a lot cheaper for the grinder. Saber saw attachment doesn't work nearly as well as dedicated Saber saw and rotary bits dulls fast and are expensive. Tried rotary tile bit and it broke with first use. No luck cutting metal with metal rotary bit, not as good as a Saber saw with metal cutting blade which is a lot cheaper.

The only drawback is that occasionally the aluminum chips get embedded in the rollers and cause scratches in the face metal (very bad!!). This is no fault of the feeder, but it's kind of a pain, because re-setting it by eye is difficult due to the mount design. I plan to make a jig so we can re-set it to the same position every time. All in all, highly recommended for lighter materials; I think it may become overwhelmed with heavy stock.

Refurbs are interesting. I don't usually buy them, so we'll see how this one pans out for the long haul. I read the reviews and it seemed like all the negative ones - people were just whiny that this wasn't just like a corded one. No battery tool is going to be as strong as a corded one. This spins at almost half the speed of a corded tool, but I think dewalt did that so it still has plenty of torque. I've used this a handful of times now and noticed that it still cuts everything, just a little slower than corded, but it doesn't bog down. Being cordless and in a bag (it comes with a huge dewalt bag) I am more likely to use it than suffer with a hand tool or drag out an extension cord and set up for a quick cut only to put all that back away. You're not going to use this to cut through a 6" cast iron pipe, but it works great cutting off small things quickly. Or cleaning up all-thread burrs, or cleaning paint off a serial number tag.

this is the second of two reviews on this same tool that i have written. in the first i bombed it as basically useless in cutting curves in hardiboard tile backer. but i then discovered the way to do it is to make several cuts each a little deeper into the board( using the guide and depth ring) until you have completely pierced the board. very smooth strong. good tool well made.

I would give CPO Outlets a zero for depicting pictures of an item that was shipped. It shows a jobmax with attachments in a red plastic box. not great for woodcarving into med to hard wood
i'm using this 1/6th horsepower sr series foredom kit and find it does not carve/cut easily through anything but soft wood. and i don't carve on soft wood so i'm very disappointed with how much effort and how slow the going is on the woods that i like to work with. i'm engraving on beech and butternut wood and i can't use the 3/32 burrs they just break after an hour or so....so i use 1/8 burrs and try the diamond and tunstun cut the best but still is very slow.....so very unhappy and am looking to upgrade to more horsepower so will probably invest in the 1/3 horsepowwer tx series by fordom....hopefully i'll beable to breeze through my designs with lots more ease. so if you are going to be doing work on med to hard wood this sr series motors are not going to work well for you.
