Damn Fine Router!!
I have had this router (9902) for a few months now and it has seen pretty heavy use. I'm just a hobbyist, not a contractor, but it is everything I need and more. It is very well built and so far has not had a single, even minor, glitch! The belt tracking adjustment works fabulously! It's quite heavy, bulky and awkward so probably not recommended for those delicate jobs. Then again that's not what it is for! It is meant for quick removal of serious wood and that it does. So much so > watch out! Don't let it stand still even for 1 second, it will dig itself a hole before you can blink. That also brings up a trick I learned. Use the finest paper your can find (120??) and go nuts! You will have good control and a perfectly smooth surface ready for finishing in no time at all!

I've used the unit for about 15-20 hours now to smooth light applications of body filler, and have been very happy with it. It is comfortable to use, and has worked flawlessly. It just made sanding body fillers a breeze. I can get more quality work done in less time, i completed 2 side panels in record time.

I have a 7 hp compressor that only runs minimally while using the unit. I'd recommend this unit for anyone who has similar work to do.

I bought this makita to replace a similar 1/4 sheet sander. My sander arrived in just a few days after ordering. It came in a surprisingly small box given the overall size of the equipment.

Assembly was simple, but as stated in another review, the top is very heavy.

After assembly I noticed that the spindle sander table was askew. It appeared that the top had been hit hard which bent the metal brackets over to one side. The box showed no signs of damage, so I can only assume it was packaged this way.

At this point, I had cut the box and Styrofoam inserts into pieces to lift the top out. With the unit already assembled I decide to straighten the problem myself. I removed the table and bent the brackets back to center. This worked out fine and in the end the table was perpendicular to the spindle in all directions.

I can't knock Grizzly for their customer support since I didn't bother to call them about the problem. I'm sure that they would have replaced the unit, but I'd rather not deal with...

Festool stuff is crazy expensive. So much so that it's out of reach for nearly everyone. That's a crying shame.
I have this sander, the larger dx something or other, and the Festool hepa vac that goes with them. I can sand all day and never get a bit of dust on me, the bench, or in my lungs.
I have some other Festool tools as well, and all are over the top.
The only way I can justify the extreme cost of these tools; saving my lungs. They last forever, but if they're not plugged into the hepa vac, it's hard to make sense of the purchase.
This sander is clunky, heavy, and a bit awkward with the vac hose plugged in. So is my other sander with the larger pad. The sandpaper is expensive, but it lasts long enough that its a value. It all comes back to comfort.
No sawdust in my shop, lungs, eyes, or on my clothes. The tools make sanding almost a joy. Well, not a joy. Bearable.

Nice Half Sheet Sander
A high end sander that is very well made like all Festool Tools, outstanding at an outstandingly steep price. Four star rating is mostly for the very high price and the oval dust port that is not directly compatible with my dust collection setup for my other tools, I did not notice the oval dust port I just assumed it would be the same as my track saw, lesson: don't ever assume anything, question everything.

Not much more to gripe about once you deal with the sticker shock and the oval dust port and oh yeah using other than Festool pre-punched sandpaper. The RS2E uses pre-punched hook and loop sandpaper from Festool, very nice very expensive sandpaper but sometimes you need to use a standard non hook and loop sandpaper and the RS2E has very nice lever action sandpaper holding clips that make it easy to install standard paper and they hold well. If you want to use regular sandpaper and still have the good dust collection you need to punch holes in the paper and you have to...

this little unit is really a gem. The only down side was finding sanding pads ...found the b&d mouse pads fit it though...haha..so i have been using those for the triangle and then cutting the scap to make profile pads...they work great and HD sells them for about 4.50 a box.....enjoy...oh and no issues with unit that others had noted...I used it for stairs, a wood ceiling and a couple pieces of old funiture i wanted to prep for refinish and even using it for 6-7 hours no problems...though i will say i wish it had a dust bag...the hose option is a bit clumsy...

I have a lot of sanders. 6amp bosch orbital, a few 3 amp dewalt orbitals, 4amp milwaukee 1/2 sheet, 3amp bosch 1/2 sheet, an old makita belt sander, and a black and decker belt sander.

I was stuck between getting this and a 12amp porter cable 4-inch sander, which is about twice as big as this sander. What finally made me get this one is I found it for $70, the porter cable is triple that price.

Having a variable speed on a belt sander is awesome. Belt sanders can remove material very fast, so being able to scale things back is a very handy feature. The vsr function is basically a little wheel on the side of the sander, so it is not a trigger-based vsr, which is good for a tool like this.

A 3x21 is a much more maneuverable sander than a 4-incher. And it's much easier to control as well. So doing something like stair treads, where you don't have much space to work in, having a smaller sander is a lot easier to work with. And this sander is still enough...

I needed a spindle sander for my knife making hobby. I like the cast iron table and the fact that it comes with all the sanding drums. The motor is very smooth and quiet. This is still the great tool it has always been. Still made in Japan and still feels strong as a bull in your hands when you power it up. It seems to not slow down at all when forced to do heavy work.

I have owned and used this sander for over six months. It works very well, has minimal vibration, plenty of power, the dust catcher feature works fine and it is comfortable in my hand. It does have one major problem and that involves the front paper clamp feature which is operated by the red button. The steel clamp has a piece of rubber that is attached to it and is the part that actually presses on the sand paper. The problem is that after using the sander for about an hour the piece of rubber came off and keeps coming off every time I use the sander. The piece of rubber is very necessary because without it the clamp doesn't press tightly enough on the sand paper to hold it in position. I tried using rubber cement to glue the piece of rubber to the steel clamp but it still kept coming off. Finally I threw the rubber part away, took a short piece of roughly 1/8 inch rubber tubing and slit it along one side. I then slipped it on to the steel clamp and since then it's held in place...
