I started using The "Soldapullt" in 1979. Before that, I used braided copper and rubber solder sucking bulbs with teflon tips. The bulbs vacuums were always of pretty marginal strength, same for the small one handed pumps that are satisfactory for PC board work.
The Soldapullt will suck out relatively large amounts of solder and not leave you frustrated. I'm excluding solder suckers with electric pumps. Oher than those, these are the best I've seen. Incidentally, I bought one of those knockoffs of this
pump and found that it looked and acted good, but it had been assembled with silicone grease! The pump that I bought from this site didn't have that awful slippery stuff thank goodness! Also, you can purchase a variety of tips for different applications.
